Mary B. Grant holds a Bachelor of Science with a Chemistry Major from Purdue University, and obtained her Juris Doctor Degree from George Washington University National Law Center, where she was a member of Order of the Coif, graduating with high honors. While at Purdue, she worked as a Chemical Engineering Cooperative Education Student in the Surgical Products Division and Industrial Abrasives Division of 3M Company, and served as a Lecture Demonstration Assistant in the Purdue Chemistry Department.  She also worked as a reporter for The Purdue Exponent.

Ms. Grant began her legal career as a law clerk at Bernard, Rothwell & Brown in Washington, DC, preparing pleadings and memoranda of law for patent, trademark and International Trade Commission litigation, as well as preparing and prosecuting patent applications, and handling trademark and copyright matters. She progressed to an associate attorney of that firm upon graduating law school, and was involved in preparation of infringement, validity and patentability opinions, as well as patent preparation and prosecution, and preparation of litigation pleadings, motions and briefs, including briefs for the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and Writ of Certiorari for the United States Supreme Court.

Mary subsequently was an Associate Attorney, and later Of Counsel, at Burns, Doane, Swecker & Mathis, LLP, where she was active in patent preparation and prosecution, opinion work, and litigation related to a variety of chemical, pharmaceutical and materials technologies.

In her previous affiliation, Ms. Grant was Of Counsel to Hutchison Law Group (Raleigh, North Carolina), where she managed the patent portfolio of a multinational corporation having a local office, as well as being actively involved in all aspects of patent preparation and prosecution, and drafting of opinions, relating to organic chemical, pharmaceutical, and catalytic technologies.

At Hultquist IP, Ms. Grant is engaged in all phases of patent practice, including patenting of chemical, pharmaceutical, advanced materials, and biotechnology inventions, as well as patentability, validity and infringement assessments, and the firm’s intellectual property litigation practice.
